Clinical biochemistry – Liver function Test:
A patient with long term chronic alcohol abuse took an overdose of pain killers in an attempt to relieve a severe headache after heavy drinking the previous night. He felt very unwell on the same day and was taken to A&E immediately. The clinician examined the patient and suspected his liver was damaged. The patient was discharged after 1 week of hospitalisation and on his first review appointment, a blood sample was taken for liver function test.
The aim of this practical session is to perform one of the tests of a set of ‘Liver function test’ offered by all clinical biochemistry laboratory to help disease diagnosis and management.
