Discuss briefly the new order (nizam-i-jedid) established in the Ottoman Empire under Selim III, and explain its significance from a military, political, and cultural perspective.

Nizam-i-cedid was a correctional move in the form of a program that consisted of western reforms that were undertaken by Selim 3, the Ottoman Sultan who reigned between the years 1789 and 1807. The reforms included new regulations on land tenure, taxation and control of trade. There were significant military reforms as well which involved the training of new troops in fortification, gunnery and navigation. These projects were financed through the taxation and confiscated fiefs of liquor, coffee and tobacco.
