 The Chinese social hierarchy is divided into three diverse groups that have been identified to have different ways of lives. The highest hierarchy is that of the landowning aristocracy, the mandarins and the bureaucrats, followed by the country’s urban artisans and peasants. The second hierarchy is mostly identified to consist of those who manufacture goods and are known to perform hard manual labor. The last category is that of the people without meaningful skills such as household slaves and performing artists and is commonly identified as the ‘mean’.
