PSYC 260, Lab #2
Complete the following steps for this lab assignment and turn in this assignment by the hard deadline for this week.
Step 1: Review Erikson’s theory in Chapter 1 and the information on Stage 1 of Erikson’s theory, Trust vs. Mistrust, in Chapter 6 of your textbook.
Step 2: Consider your own life and the lives of your friends and family in terms of Erikson’s psychosocial stages of development. Remember that Erikson viewed behavior as the manifestation of an individual’s progressive responses to social “dilemmas” that present themselves throughout the life span. The direction that people take in dealing with the dilemma at each stage provides the perspective from which they will approach subsequent stages. Examining an individual’s current behavior (and, to some extent, an individual’s age) can indicate which stage of Erikson’s theory an individual is experiencing as well as provide some insight into how he or she may have responded to previous stages (i.e., Were previous stages resolved positively or negatively?)
Step 3: Write a 1- to 2-page analysis to answer the following questions: What stage of Erikson’s psychosocial theory are you currently in? What stage are your friends in? Your parents? Provide evidence to support your reasoning (the evidence must go beyond repeating what is in your text). Avoid quoting, and if you must do so, limit your use.
Grading Criteria: The maximum number of points that can be earned for this lab is 10. A 10-point answer is one that addresses all the points posed in the question prompt, indicates independent thought, demonstrates thorough reflection, is written without grammatical and mechanical errors, and is turned in by the deadline.
Please remember to limit direct quotes from your text or other sources AND, if you use other sources, remember to cite your sources and the page numbers for direct quotes and paraphrased statements. Finally, if you use sources other than your textbook, provide the entire reference for the source in APA style.
