When did thanksgiving become a national holiday?

Thanksgiving is celebrated on every fourth Thursday in November (Colman, 2015). Indians together with pilgrims used to give thanks to God their creator, provider and their source of blessings back in 1621.During this time they used to celebrate Thanksgiving as their traditional holiday but not necessarily as a national holiday. Afterwards, as the population of the people in the country grew, more people started to celebrate Thanksgiving as a holiday. The first Thanksgiving to be celebrated by many American citizens through the entire American began after the revolutionary as their holiday but not as a national holiday (Colman, 2015).
